Because there's been so little posting on Travels with Monkey Lately, you may think poor Monkey hasn't been traveling.. but never fear, Monkey has been out and about, just visiting the same old places mostly.
So, Monkey was pretty excited when he found out we were going to the small city of Salmon Arm, BC. It's on Shuswap Lake and named Salmon Arm because the lake is in the shape of a X (or deformed H), with each of the four arms having a different name.
The area was absolutely gorgeous. During the 90 minute drive north from Kewlona Airport, I traveled through desert, past sparkling blue lakes, and through BC's wine country.
Salmon Arm, itself, was quite beautiful - my hotel even abutted a bird habitat! The city of ~20,000 is on the Trans-Canadian Highway and a major rail line. I've never seen so much commerce in action before - giant trucks and long Costco trains were constantly rumbling through the town. It definitely made me think a Trans-Canadian trip should be in my future.
